Wednesday, July 27

We are well into our 2nd week.  We have had a bit of illness, it seems the second week here can run you down.  We have 2 more days at our volunteer projects.  You can all be proud of your kids, they have done a great job engaging with the children.

Disfrutando de la clase

Saturday is Peruvian Independence day.  The last 2 days there have been student parades in the plaza.  The students and their teachers march accompanied by a military band.  It is quite a different thing for our students to see!

The first school to march by.

The faculty that goose steps together, stays together.

This what Monument Valley uniforms should look like.

Una granadilla, a local fruit.

The inside of a granadilla, sort of like frog eggs, pero...¡muy rica!

Some fotos from La Escuela de Sordos.  This is the one project where we don't use any Spanish.  We have learned a bit of sign language; all of us have managed to communicate quite well, though.  We have become quite attached to the children.  Most of them are very affectionate and it will hard to leave tomorrow.  This day we made a large batch of hot chocolate for them.
Some of the clothing we donated has started to appear.

The little girl on the left is not only deaf, but autistic.  She has really come out in the last 2 weeks and engaged in our activities.

¡Riquísimo!
